Interaction between human beings and the natural world has always assumed the possibility of its use for their own benefit. Since the dawn of humanity surviving meant to experience, learn, know and recognize potential and diversity of resources that may be used, but also to create conditions and means that allow such use in a variety of geographic spaces with different characteristics which, in turn, determined particular behaviors of the human communities as well as different environmental impacts. Therefore, over the centuries, the relation human beings / nature became the privileged space in which knowledge, technique and science developed.
In this first meeting we intend to discuss the multiple aspects of this relation with specific focus on the way natural world was seen, interpreted and handled by people throughout time, the consequences of the secular manipulation of the natural resources and the importance of recovering historical information related to this process for a better understanding of the present day relation human / environmental changes.
